The birth of the Elkins IRLP This summer, Maurice G. Brown II (AB8E), Zane Hammack (WV8ZH) and Jason Bailey (KD8JCS) devised a plan to launch an Elkins IRLP node. They wanted to provide this service to West Virginia hams in order to globally link them with other hams. AB8E furnished the IRLP hardware and valuable knowledge regarding IRLP fundamentals. |
| WV8ZH not only provided the commercial grade radio, but he offered his custom-made interfacing cable, critical to computer to radio communication, and provided a tower at Rich Mountain, a premium location for excellent coverage in the great state of West Virginia. KD8JCS conducted the hardware assembly and the general programming and installation of LINUX-REDHAT software. Bill Grindle (N8RLR) also provided valuable time and dedication to the installation. | ![]() |
